Saying that people “see themselves in the commodities they consume” used to be a witty criticism of consumerist/capitalist culture; now with iPhone selfies its just a completely mundane and factual statement about reality.

There’s probably some deep insight I should be explicating about the “cunning of reason” here, but instead I’m just going to use it as a tenuous excuse for narcissism and post one.

Questionhave you read anything interesting recently? Answer

I just finished reading History and Class Consciousness: Studies in Marxist Dialectics by Georg Lukacs, which I’d definitively recommend unless you don’t like/get Hegel, cause it’s pretty heavily dependent on it. Currently I’m reading One-Dimensional Man (Marcuse), Four Essays on Liberty (Isaiah Berlin), and The Dialectics of Secularization (Habermas and Ratzinger), all of which are interesting so far, particularly One-Dimensional Man

Does this look like a George Lucas biography to you? Would seeing this book prompt you to spark a conversation on Star Wars with a random Lifegaurd you’ve never met while swimming at a hotel pool like 9 people have done in the past two days.

Not that I don’t absolutely love explaining why a Hungarian Marxist’s essays on dialectical materialism have nothing to do with the life of the author of the Star Wars Series (which I’ve never seen).

Hey there tumblr.
I don’t know if you can see from this picture, but this rainy weather really accentuates my utter lack of melanin.

Hello, Tumblr

I felt like it was weird that their were no pictures of me on my tumblog.
